“When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with
themselves, they are not wise.”- 2 Corinthians 10:12
AS it is Women’s Day, I address this to our female readers, but it
applies to all: Do you ever compare yourself to others and feel like you don’t
quite measure up? Maybe you feel like you’re not as smart, pretty, informed,
charming, or socially “cool” as they are. The Bible opens with the story of a
woman who had everything, but it still wasn’t enough. Eve was the crown of God’s
creation. He supplied her with all she needed - yet Satan lured her into
desiring what she didn’t have, the forbidden fruit. Ever since, envy, we all
know, has become one of the ways of the world. “If only I were like her … if
only I had a house like hers, a husband like hers, a job like hers …”. If
only Eve had focused on the fact that she was a child of God! Yet Satan wants people
to feel inadequate, and today’s world exploits this horribly. Christian women need
to be wise and rely on the assurance that, ”we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he
planned for us long
ago.” (Ephesians 2: 10)
