“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and
honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things
that are excellent and worthy of praise.” – Philippians 4: 8
WHAT is on your mind today? There’s
a world of troubles, trials, dangers, fears, and controversies fighting to
occupy your mind. But God knew this would be the way of the world, so He
equipped us to resist and win the struggle for peace of mind. That is why we
are told in Romans 12: 2, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this
world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”
Can He really do that? Of course; 2 Timothy 2: 7 states, “Think
about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.” Preoccupying
our minds with Godly things can be life-changing. But then we must “fix our thoughts”
on His Word. It must become an automatic, instinctive part of our nature. We
are made in the image of God, but we are products of a secular environment
which misleads, invades, and can captivate our minds. But God has also given us
the victorious spiritual power through Christ for our thoughts – and lives – to
be “true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable”, so that
we can bring peace and joy to others.
