“I have told you all this so that you may
have peace of mind in me. Here on earth you may have many trials and sorrows.
But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” – John 16: 33
NOWHERE in the Bible does God say He will give us a life free from
trouble and sorrow. On the contrary, Jesus said that during our “many trials
and sorrows”, He would give us “peace of mind“. And then He sent the Holy
Spirit to be our “Comforter”. God’s plan is to give us immunity to the destructive
effects of troubles that infect life on earth. My dictionary defines the word
immunity as “the ability of an organism to resist a particular infection or
toxin by the action of specific antibodies” – in this context, the actions of
God are what make us able us to resist permanent infection by troubles and
sorrows. So, when grief, anger and doubt threaten to overcome you, remember to
take heart and trust in God; by His grace, hope will overcome your hurt.
