“Fix your thoughts on
what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.
Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” – Philippians 4: 8
I FIND myself constantly returning to Romans 12: 2, the theme of THINK&PRAY,
and to the above scripture for confirmation, re-assurance and inspiration. Romans
says let God transform you into a new, better person by changing the way you
think. Philippians tells us how to think in a life-changing way. It says we must
“fix our thoughts” on Godly things. This means we must focus our minds on them
and not be diverted. It means those thoughts must become automatic, instinctive
and part of our nature - when we see, hear or feel something our snap reaction
must be Spirit-driven, and this applies also to our more contemplated thinking. We
must never under-estimate the impact of society-driven thinking on our lives.
We are made in the image of God, but we are products of a secular environment which
misleads, invades and captivates our minds. But God has also given us the spiritual
power (Acts 1: 8) for our thoughts – and lives – to be true, honorable, right, pure,
lovely, and admirable, so that we can bring peace and joy to others. Society’s
misapprehensions must not be allowed to defeat us.
