destroy the works
of the devil.” – 1 John 3: 8
A POLITICAL commentator who recently remarked that “the devil is in the
headlines” was closer to the mark than even he knew. Not only must news stories
be read in context, not just by a sensational attention stealer, but constant exposure
to manifest evil destroys hope and can negatively impact our attitudes. Bad news
in the form of man’s apparently insatiable greed and inhumanity towards man –
and especially to women and children – surrounds us. It can be hell on earth.
Of course, we need to be aware, but it must not be allowed to impact our faith
in God or the bedrock truth that we are certain of a victorious future in
Christ.
