Power perspectives

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you...” – Acts 1: 8

WE all endure the fact that power corrupts – only the degree varies. It is the stuff wars, suffering, dictatorships and empires – personal and national - are made of. Many live and die for it. All of which multiplies the need for us to retain a Godly view of it; after all only God, our creator, is all-powerful. So what did Jesus mean when He said we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on us? In essence, it means that when God himself lives in you, you have the power on tap to do His will on earth.
Romans 12: 2 puts the issue of godly power in perspective: “Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect”.
So be assured, no matter how much worldly power may impact our lives, Almighty God has declared, “…the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” – 1 John 4: 4
