Space and the Bible

““For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3: 16

THE challenges facing the world were well summed up for me when I read what ex-astronaut and now Foreign Minister of Canada, Marc Garneau, told the UN General Assembly. Space, he said, had offered him a unique perspective, and “I have realised…that we all come from the same place…that we have nowhere else to go, and that we must find a way to get along with one another.” That admirable world view lacks one thing – how to find the way. But the Bible puts that into perspective – Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. God is where we all come from, and God loved us enough to send His son to show all of us the way. His way is for us all - the world - to love Jesus. 1 John 5: 5 declares, “And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” The Bible also says Christians are the light of the world who must share and spread godly qualities like brotherly affection and love for all. “Go therefore and teach all nations…” (Matthew 28: 19) “to get along with one another”, as the spaceman says - but in the love of Christ.
