Dear brothers and sisters, when
troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for
great joy. – James 1: 2
THE troubles that surround us these days, made it hard for me to grasp
the use of the word “joy” – let alone “great joy” – in the scripture above. To
most of us,” joy” is equivalent to “happiness”, “hilarity” or even “let’s have
a party!” But that isn’t what the Bible means, and God’s Word does bring
clarity. We don’t see “joy” as a normal response to trouble, but what God wants
is not a natural reaction but a super-natural spiritual reaction. And the key
to this “joy” is knowing that God is in
control. That gives us a deep satisfaction, a positive, hopeful outlook that He
has given you the strength to grow in your faith and endurance even when things
seem to be out of control. It means, “Weeping
may last through the night,
but joy comes with the morning. (Psalm 30:5). It means, “The Lord is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled
with joy.” (Psalm 28:
7)
