“…and
when all you owned was taken from you, you accepted it with joy. You knew there
were better things waiting for you that will last forever.” – Hebrews 10: 34
WE live in
an age of planned obsolescence. The commercial imperative is that things are
designed to be replaced. Even our loveliest, most costly vehicles end up in
junkyards, crushed and abandoned. Knowing this, reminds me again that the
things we can see – even, I suppose, rare antiquities – are of passing value,
but there are things we can’t see that will last forever. The Lord tells us not
to put too much value on material things. Our truly invaluable, great, and
everlasting things are to be found in Christ and His Holy Spirit. He generates
eternal values of love, peace, hope and wisdom that do not always conform to
the ever-changing values of this world, but which can fill us instead with
eternal bliss.
