"LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will
be. Remind me that my days are numbered — how fleeting my life is." - Psalm 39:4
MOST of us can spend
some time delighting over old family photographs – and we probably all come
away astonished at how quickly our cute little kiddies have matured. Time
flies. Last time I indulged in a bout of photo nostalgia, it set me thinking -
life is short, we mustn’t waste any of it. But how do we make the most of what time
we have left? I turned to scripture and Ephesians 5: 15 - 16 says: “Don’t live like fools, but like those who
are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil
days. Don’t act thoughtlessly but understand what the Lord wants you to
do.” Paul goes on to give practical
advice, but this is the essence: 1) “Don’t
act thoughtlessly…” – let the
things of God occupy your mind before you speak or act. 2) “Understand what the Lord wants you to do…”- be
guided by God’s Word and His Holy Spirit in your dealings and relationships with
God and man. That will make the best of life, for you and those you love, for
however long it may be.
