“Here on earth you will have many trials and
sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” – John 16: 33
THE Lord’s words are true beyond doubt. Our daily
newscasts – whether on social media, TV or radio - confirm that there are
indeed many trials and sorrows here on earth.
But then logic says the second half of the above scripture is also
beyond doubt - that God has overcome the world. I know people who don’t watch
or read the news anymore; too depressing. But we can’t just give in; take heart! God wants us to turn to His proven Word
instead. She wants us to see our lives and our troubles by the light of His
Word. He, by His grace, has overcome the world so let Him live in us. In the
words of an old school hymn, “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin
with me.”
