“We do this by keeping our
eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” – Hebrews
12: 2
EVERY year the Comrades Marathon serves to remind me
of the essence of Christian faith. Every finisher is a champion. The last
runner/walker/crawler across the line before cut-off time is as big a hero as
the winner of the race. In life’s marathon, God’s grace has enabled us all to
wear His medal. Like ultra-marathon runners, we must struggle on against our
own limitations, focussing on our strengths. In life Jesus is our source of
strength, our coach, our champion. He supports us all the way, whatever our limitations
and no matter whether we finish with a sprint, or a limp. He is there to put us
on life’s podium.
