“No one lights a lamp and then
puts it under a basket. .. let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so
that everyone will praise our heavenly Father.’ – Matthew 5: 15- 16
I READ about a woman who, one day during a hectic lunch
hour in a busy diner situated in a crowded supermarket, called for the manager.
Expecting a chiding, he was delighted to be given a compliment. He, in turn, effusively
thanked her, complimented his cooks and went off patting his waiting staff on
their backs individually. The whole atmosphere in the restaurant apparently changed.
The Lord had spoken to the woman diner in the
Spirit. In an everyday situation, she had declared light into the darkness.
Light overcomes and changes things. People’s perceptions are changed; moods
swing from negative to positive. Something as simple as a smiling, unexpected
“thank you“ can make someone’s day. Christians have it in them to be the salt and
the light
of the world. If that sounds a bit daunting then at least
follow this example and be the light of your supermarket. We carry the kingdom
of God. We are the change agents. This is a great and awesome responsibility. Jesus changed the world; we also
can help change our little worlds!
