“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to
you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.” –
Matthew 7: 12
JESUS put it so
positively; He didn’t say what not to do, He said do what you would like to be
done to you! Give some kindness, some encouragement, some help, some care. This
is the golden rule of His new Covenant with us – be nice, spread some joy, do
good, look to others, look beyond your own needs. We need to build our lives on
a basis of goodness and mercy, the kind of grace God shows us even when we don’t
deserve it. Think of something merciful you can do today – to someone you know,
someone you’ve seen, or someone who is on your mind. If you’d like it, do it.
