“Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of
Christ Jesus” – 2 Timothy 2: 3.
TRULY, there are many dangers, troubles
and disappointments on the road to heaven. And that’s why Paul told Timothy to “share
in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus” (I suggest you read 2
Timothy 2: 1- 7). And that most beloved hymn of all time, Amazing Grace,
also contains a verse that teaches this same truth:
“Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come.
’Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.”
Though we don’t understand it at the
time, the troubles are often for our spiritual benefit. Spiritual growth is
neither instant nor easy. But as football coaches say, “No pain, no gain.” We may
have no control over many things that happen to us or those we love. But we do
have complete control over how we respond. And by God’s grace, we can carry on
and grow into good soldiers for Christ.
