“Pure and
genuine religion in
the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their
distress…” – James 1: 27
I HAVE written before on us trying to see the world as God sees it, and
there is more to come. But in no area of our lives is this more important than when
it comes to seeing and understanding the needs of others. God knows all our
needs; we need to ask Him to help us open our eyes and our hearts so that we, His
ambassadors on this planet, can help Him care for the widows, the orphans, and
others in distress. Sir Francis of Assisi is supposed to have said, “Preach the
gospel at all costs, but only if you have to, use words.” Sometimes, when seeing
to the needs of the weak and the hungry, our actions of mercy speak louder than
words.
