“When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.”- 2 Corinthians 10:12
AS it is Women’s Day, I address this to our female
readers, but it applies to all: Do you ever compare yourself to others and feel
like you don’t quite measure up? Maybe you feel like you’re not as smart,
pretty, fun, organized or as good at raising kids or socialising as they are. The
Bible opens with the story of a woman who had everything, but it still wasn’t
enough. Eve was the crown of His creation. He also supplied Eve with every
woman’s desires. Yet Satan lured her into desiring what she didn’t have. He
convinced her that the forbidden fruit would make her God-like. It was a
foolish comparison. Yet many do it all the time. “If only I were like her …
if only I had a house like hers, a husband like hers, a job like hers … if only
my children behaved like hers …”. If only Eve had focused on the fact that she
was a child of God. Yet Satan wants people to feel inadequate, and in the case
of women, the world exploits this horribly. Christian women must be strong,
refute the lies and focus on God’s assurance that - “I can
do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” - Philippians 4:13
