God and politics

“This is the new covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” – Hebrews 10: 16
THERE is much debate, specially in social media, about whether it is realistic to live by and to propagate Christian morality in public life and politics. Of course, it is - and must be! God utterly out-smarted politicians when He put His holy laws into His people’s hearts and minds by calling them into a new covenant through Jesus’s sacrifice. Under the new deal, Christ’s followers know right from wrong and how to live in love, righteousness and forgiveness while trying to draw those who err closer to God in whatever forum man devises. We may not always obey these inner instincts, but we are certainly not called to shut up or to celebrate sin, whether it be ours or that of others. The covenant works both ways – God commits to loving us if we commit to love and follow Christ, wherever life takes us. That way, we can look forward to His day of judgement which is coming for all of us.
