“There
are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.” – 1 Cor 12: 5
“But with God
everything is possible.” – Matt 19:26
GOD uses us in ways
we would never imagine. I know someone who when born again joked, “I’ll do
anything else for you Lord, but please don’t send me to Pakistan”. It clearly never
occurred to him that God might even ask someone to walk a tightrope across the
Grand Canyon! Yet that is exactly what happened this week; a Christian
tightrope walker, Nik Wallenda, crossed a large gorge in the Grand Canyon,
praising Jesus with every step he took. For 25 minutes, he hung in the air with
only God by his side. As he praised Jesus, he even thanked Him for “this
beautiful view”. WOW, talk of gratitude!
Millions around the world watched his
tightrope ministry in awe on TV; millions more on the internet. His service is
utterly different, verging on the miraculous. It was made possible by God, empowering
Nik’s balance, courage and dedication to their goal. We each have our own
different kind of service, however humble. It might simply be helping someone,
or influencing them through a conversation (see Col 4: 5 – 6). But let’s use
every opportunity God gives us, however improbable it may seem - and thank Him
we’re not tightrope walkers…
